Lesson 1 – Grouping

Objective:

  • At the end of this lesson, students should be able to divide numbers by grouping them.

 

Before we start, here are some vocabularies to be learnt.

VOCABULARIES

DIVIDE: To divide is to carry out the operation of division or sharing a quantity into a number of equal parts. Example, divide 10 by 5.

QUOTIENT: is the result of dividing one number by another. For example; what is the quotient when you divide 6 by 2? The quotient is 3.

DIVIDEND: The number to be divided is the dividend.

DIVISOR: The number used to divide the dividend.

DIVISIBLE: One number that can be divided exactly by another number is said to be divisible by the second number.

SHARE: To share is to divide equally between two or more people or groups.

Example:

We can divide items by grouping them into a desired number.

Example 1

There are 20 strawberries here, let’s put them into groups

 

Example 2

There are 12 chicks .Let’s put them in groups
