Lesson 3– Multiplying One Digit By One Digit Numbers

Objective:

• At the end of this lesson, students should be able to multiply one digit numbers by one digit numbers.

VOCABULARIES

PRODUCT: When two or more numbers are multiplied together, the result is called the product. Product means multiplication.

OFF: means multiplication.

TIMES: means multiplication.

MULTIPLY: To multiply is to add a number to itself a given number of times.

Multiplication means times (x).  2 X 3 means 2 times 3.

This also means 2 + 2 + 2 = 6

You can multiply numbers in any order.

2 x 3 = 3 x 2

When you multiply two numbers you get a multiple.

3 x 2 = 6        ,           2 x 3 = 6

6 is a multiple of 2 and 3

We can also say that 6 is the product of 2 and 3.

Product simply means, times or multiply.

Students are encouraged to learn their times table very well.

Multiplication means adding the same thing to itself many times. This is Repeated Addition.

Examples

3 x 3 = 9

2 x 4 = 8

2 x 0 = 0

Remember, any number multiplied by a zero (0)
